Viewing Files on a ClickFree backup | Safe Computing and PC Maintenance | Forums

Q: I just got the Clickfree from TechnoRV and backed up files from my three networked computers. It all worked fine and I even did a test restore and that seemed to work OK, too. I backed up to an external hard drive that I have other stuff on and I am sure the backup files went there because the available capacity was reduced by the cumulative size of the backed up files. However, when I look at the hard drive with Explorer (as you said could be done), I don’t see any of those backup files. Why not? I still see the stuff that was already on the hard drive.

A: The best way to view files on a ClickFree backup is using the ClickFree software … -Restore/Transfer -Advanced Restore -Browse Files.  

But, I know what you're talking about … it gave me a real comfort feeling when I was able to browse the drive just with Windows Explorer and see my files.  I don't think this is specifically supported by clickfree as I don't find it in their support FAQs, but we found our files just by browsing around.  Here's how it works on my computer:

First, you need to have hidden files showing in Windows Explorer: Tools / Folder Options / View "Show Hidden Files and Folders"

Then, find the ClickFree Storage Drive (not the ClickFree System drive), you should see a hidden folder simply labeled 's' Double-click on that and you'll see another s.  I have 5 nested s folders before I get to a folder called ClickFree Backup.  Open ClickFree Backup and I see folders 1,2,3,4 & 5.  These represent the 5 computers that we are backing up using ClickFree.  I don't know how to tell which is which here other than opening and taking a look.  I finally find my actual files at this path: G:\s\s\s\s\s\Clickfree Backup\3\C\Users\Chris\Documents
