PC Cleaner & Speed up

I see numerous ads on TV for software claiming to "speed up your PC" etc. Ran one called PC Cleaner and of course it claimed to find hundreds of problems (200+ keys in the Registry alone). They of course want to charge for the program to actually do anything. I chose not to use this questionable software.

But I was able to see a list of the Registry entries they claim can be removed. Some even seem reasonable. There were numerous entries such as keys for IE-5 or Norton Internet Security and Norton Utilities and similar software that was removed from the PC years ago.

I understand the potential problems with messing with the Registry and of course would make a backup before making any changes. Is there any reason not to delete the Keys that reference lone gone software?

I understand that some will not understand this topic and I would suggest that if someone doesn't understand my question then definately do not run software that messes with the Windows registry. This is real Geek stuff.

Do not waste your money. I don't put any faith in the ads. Most of these types of programs do little good or harm. Some can really mess the computer up.

It doesn't cost much in money or time to maintain your computer, keeping it in top condition.

Save some bucks. Use our BUCS system.

I have been using C Cleaner for years and never had a problem. I have almost It all the boxes checked. I have never had to restore anything from using the registry cleaner. They have easy access to the startup menu so programs can be easily disabled, but some are persistent on re-enabling themselves.
