Passwords

I'm sure you realize that it is very important to write down your username and password and keep it handy. But, if you should lose it, here are a few procedures:  (this has been simplified as of April 2011: see response below)

  • Right below the login form is a link that reads "Lost Your Password?"  You will need to enter either your username, or your email address associated with your membership.
  • This system is secure, it won't email your existing password.

1. click the 'Forgot Password' link on the login form, and fill in your username *or* email

2. Check your email for "RE: Your Geeks on Tour membership login info", it will include a 'reset password' link and click on it

3. On the reset password form enter a new password … twice

4. Login with your new password!!

If all else fails, you can email us at help@geeksontour.com.

One of the features of the previous password retrieval was a feature that included your membership expiry date.  I just tried the link from above and the email still include the details of my membership expiry date (July 2011, no need to worry yet).  Would it be possible to include the membership expiry on our membership profile?

Thanks.

Al

Hey Al,

You found one of the reasons we almost didn't go with this system … we have a lot less control over registration information.  We can see the date you registered as a Basic member, and we can set a basic membership to expire after one year.  That's it.  There is no 'Expiry Date' per se in this system.  Eventually, this will be an OK system, you just look at your 'Date Joined' and add a year to see your Expiry date.  But, for all our existing members, your 'Date Joined is Aug 5 – because that's when we did the migration.  As the year goes by, we will be manually 'expiring' those migrated memberships.

The link to the old database is still active, so you can see what your expiration date is there.  Yours is July 20, 2011.

Good News!!  Wordpress (the platform for this website) has simplified the password reset process.  It used to be a confusing, 2 email, procedure.  Now it's much better:

1. click the 'Forgot Password' link on the login form, and fill in your username *or* email

2. Check your email for "RE: Your Geeks on Tour membership login info", it will include a 'reset password' link and click on it

3. On the reset password form enter a new password … twice

4. Login with your new password!!
