Hi Chris…

Your blogging seminar is one of the several I attended in Perry.

Please review my initial attempt and give me any feedback I might need.

Thanks,

Bill

Hey Bill!

Wow!  Your 'New Chapter' is great!  I especially like the part about you attending 8 Geeks on Tour seminars :-)

I  attended eight geeksontour.com seminars.  All of our pics are now organized and backed up on Clickfree, our Western Digital external hard drive and on DVD.  Our grandkids now think we're Facebook literate.  Streets & Trips, Google Earth and a blog-who would have thought it?  Chris and Jim Guld are so good at what they do.  Chris must be a great teacher, because I haven't had many questions.

Ok, for some specifics:

  • I am so impressed you were able to get the domain name seeingtheusa.com – what a great name!
  • And – you really got the hang of 'Pages' in Blogger.  Good Job.  I may use you for an example in class.
  • I thing the picture in the header should be smaller.  Most screens will only see the picture and make you scroll down to see any of the actual blog.  See this article about using Picasa to make a banner picture: http://picasatutorials.com/201…..r-picture/
  • I notice the 'subscribe via email' … did you use Feedburner for that?
  • I also notice you put your full email in the sidebar.  I advise against that.  There are computer robots that are programmed to scan web pages all day and all night just looking for email address that they can harvest and sell to spammers.  Instead, I would tell people to use comments.  If you set comments to be moderated, they will come to you as an email without even being posted as a comment.  You will see the sender's email and can establish regular email contact if you wish.  See this blogger tutorial: http://geeksontour.tv/2011/06/…..oderation/
  • Just curious … why do you have photos on Flickr rather than Picasa Web Albums?

Thank you David. Thank you Chris.

Chris, I will get back with any questions after I do my homework.  Thank you for your input.

OK Chris, I've finished my homework.

I now know how to create the banner.

"subscribe via email" was on Blogger's gadget list. It is Feedburner.

I've removed my email address from the blog and set comments to be moderated.

I linked to Flickr because that's where my pictures are now.  I haven't uploaded to Picasa Web Albums yet.  After I do, I want to create "View My Gallery."  What Tutorial Video do I want to watch in order to do that?

I'm really having fun with your Learning Library.  Thanks so much for "Showing Me How".

Good Job!

'View my Gallery' is also a gadget in Blogger – a Picasa Web Albums 'stream' I think they call it.  No video on that specifically – but I have a feeling you'll figure it out!

Chris…

Tonight I was playing with my blog, with shrinkpictures.com and with 123contactform.com. You already know that your 8 seminars at Perry in March have made this "computer stuff" one of my favorite pastimes. But it occurred to me tonight that you and your show me videos have also given me confidence to navigate this maze of computerdom. Smile Wanting to do something and finally figuring it out is just plain fun.

Thanks as always!

-Bill

What a great thing to tell us!  Do you have any advice for other members about how to get the most out of the videos?

We're SOO glad to hear that you're enjoying this computer stuff … even if you are starting to sound a bit geeky!
