Chris, I have followed your advice and renamed all my photos in Picasa so the order stays put.  However, when working on my blog in Live Writer and try to insert photos, the order of the pictures is very random.  It takes a long time to find the pictures that I want to insert.  Is there a way to keep the order in Live Writer?  Thanks for your help.

Hi Frank,

I'm not following something.

When in Live Writer, I am usually inserting one picture at a time, when I get to the place I want that picture to be in my post.  So, I'm not sure what you mean by the order in Live Writer.  Can you explain a bit more?

Sorry, I didn't explain myself.  When I click the "insert photo" icon in Live Writer all my photos appear but they are not in order by number from Picasa or by date or any other order.  They are all just random and I have to search through the whole batch to find the photo or photos that I want.  It takes a lot of time and those little thumbnails are hard to see.  Laugh

Hope I did that better.

Frank

Frank,

When you click Insert, Picture – then I assume you choose From your computer …

At that point, you're looking at a Windows Explorer screen, the type of view and sort order are controlled by Windows.  I like to use Detail view, (not icons) then you have column headers you can use to sort by clicking on the column header … Name, Date, etc..

What version of windows are you on?

I am using Vista and getting pictures "From File".  There is no option to change the view from thumbnails to list that I can see and it doesn't even look like a Windows screen but it could be.  Picture order appears as 201102-262, 201102-261, 201102-165, 201102-162, etc. so they do not appear in any particular order.

I did just find where I can use the list view and I can sort by date or tags, etc. so I guess I could do that in order to find the photos I want.

Chris,

When inserting a picture into Live Writer I can take them from My Pictures, no problem. My question is, how can I access the pictures that I have edited in Picasa to put into Live Writer? I know I can if I do a Save As in Picasa, but that gives me extra pictures in My Picture folder. Is there any way to access Picasa photos directly from Live Writer or from GMail? Thanks!

If you just do a 'Save' … not a 'Save As' – you should be fine.

If I do a Save doesn't that replace my original picture? Confused

Yes, and No.

Yes it replaces your original file in its original location – this is a good thing for using your picture outside of Picasa (like in Live Writer) since you can refer to the same picture.

No – you don't lose your original.  Picasa makes a backup in a hidden folder called Originals.

Watch the Picasa video – #32 – Ways to Save, for more detail.
